Google carpenters in your city and then read the reviews. Angies list will/may charge you but sometimes it's the best way to go. I hope that helps.

Your State Contractors License Board - plus they have tips for consumers. I have also received good referrals on Nextdoor.com,but I always check their license before hiring.

Homeadvisor is a ripoff. Contractors pay to be on their site. The ones that advertise get top billing. Home Depot has a book of contractors that purchase from them. I was registered with them years ago. You can also check with the building department in your village hall.
