Whether on not they bloom the next year depends more on when you cut them. You should cut back ASAP after flowering. If you want to reduce the size of the plant overall, I would suggest cutting several older branches down entirely. If you want a shorter plant, just take out the lilac and replace it with something smaller.
I pain my powder room floor with regular paint and 5 coats of polyurethane. Though it was a well trafficked floor it survived very well and I even sold the house that way and the buyer loved it. Take the bits of decorative trim off of the front of the vanity. get rid of the handles. Some wood putty, paint and new hardware would look great
