How do I build a retaining wll that would hold back dirt 18' high

Question

my property is 18' lower than  my one neighbor and even with the other neighbor.  I plan on bringing my property level with the neighbor that is higher.  how do i build a retaining wall to keep the dirt on my property.  I want an attractive wall but do not want it to cost more than it needs too.

2 rows of concrete block will give you the height you need, just paint the outside towards your neighbor the same color as your house.

First, find out your local building codes, especially if you live where it rains a lot or snows, as your footing will be the most important part of the project. Typically a permit is not required until you wall is 3' to 4' high. Even if you use cinderblock, generally the cheapest, you can always cap with a slightly more expensive stone and still have it look really pretty. Slumpstone looks really pretty too, just a little more per block, depending on your location. Here are a few links for you. I would use rebar and fill the blocks for strength and durability.
