Check out the web sites for places like Petco, PetSmart, Drs. Foster and Smith. Amazon, etc. They have different things for restraining dogs in cars, including elevated boxes for small dogs, etc.
There are special seat belts for dogs that fasten into the existing belts... they allow the dogs to lay down if they want
I have a harness, that attaches to the seatbelt. It is made to fit into the seatbelt, like a car seat wu7dl. Keeps her in the back seat and out of trouble. Don't remember where I bought it. I have a 80 pound lab, who would love to jump into the front seat. You can leave the harness on when you get to your destination. (just not all the time, but like for the park, or the Vet.
There are a number of products on the market depending on the size of your pet. Pet shops in stores and on line. What kind of dog do you have and what type of vehicle?
My aunt installed a child car seat for her small dog so he could see out the window and be secured with his harness. I also found this:

Amazon.com,Pet Smart,Petco,Pet supplies Plus are a few places that carry the items
My westie has a harness that attaches to the seat belt. Pet Supermarket.
I bought a seat sort of a bed with a tether to keep them clipped in. Your dog MUST have a car safe harness. A collar will choke or kill them in a crash crushing their air pipe. Not to scare you but this is important.
Look at reviews. Good luck.
This is one example available on eBay. Mine is a DIY. I don’t always want the hassle of lugging kennels so I actually bought a seat belt “Male” end and I attached an 8 inch Y or sometimes a 3 way coupler (like you use to walk 2 or 3 same sized dogs together) attaching clips to their harnesses and that’s what I use for my Chinese Crested girls who tend to run back and forth while I drive. They are small and all fit comfortably on one back seat attached to one female end of seat belt. They can still stand up but can’t wander all over or go rolling if I suddenly brake. Never ever let small dogs ride in front because a deployed airbag could kill your small dog. My big girl sits tall enough in the front seat and is large enough that an airbag wouldn’t kill her but interestingly enough, if everyone else rides in the back, that’s where she wants to ride. On her though I can just run the seat belt through the back of her harness and she sits very nicely for it.
You can buy a dog seat bealt. Works great. Any pet store should carry them
Take a look at Chewy.com. We buy all our pets needs from them. They are way cheaper than PetSmart and PetCo. We have had excellent service from them.
They make harnesses that hook into the seat belts. My little dog wouldn't stay in the elevated seat. I personally thought it was a great idea!!
Here is a collection of pictures showing different types of car seats for your dog. I believe you have to keep the dog's size by weight in mind when making a purchasing decision. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=car+seats+for+dogs&qpvt=car+seats+for+dogs&FORM=IGRE
For small dogs I think such car seats is good decision.
