White stains on black pants after washing- what can I do?
I wash my dark pants in cold water with regular detergent and a fairly new washing machine (about 1 year old) and the pants come out with white streaks
I add vinegar to the water and let soak for about a half hour then wash.
Put a huge bandage on it and sing to it,
OK, I admit you got me laughing with this one!! Best change your name to Quirky206!!...I would take Karen's suggestion..
also use only COLD water.
Wash it with vinegar.
I'd wash it separately adding a cup of white vinegar to the cycle. Rinse in cold water adding a 1/4 cup of salt. Repeat the wash cycle if needed. Best of luck.
I use vinegar and epsom salt in cold water, if a natural fiber garmant. Here are a couple links.

soak in vinegar and warm water 1 c vinegar to a sink of water. Then wash alone and dry, that should do it. I do this to all my bathing suits also.
Wash it alone in cold water to which you have added some distilled vinegar (I would say 1/2 a cup should work). I did this for a red flannel shirt and it kept the red bright for many years and also stopped its bleeding.
have you tried washing in water and white vinegar?
Add one 1/4 cup table salt and one cup vinegar per gallon of cool, clean water. The vinegar and salt work together to naturally lock the colour into the fabric.
I have heard to soak in cool very salty water overnight
The vinegar should work. If not try soaking in salt water.
Salt in coldwater soak works sometimes
only wash in cold water.
Soak it several hours in a heavy solution of cold water and salt.
Soak it in cold water with a LOT of salt in the water. Squish it around, flip it, make sure it is saturated well and leave it a couple of hours. Then wash it in cold water and if you aren't worried about it shrinking, dry it as hot as you can. It may not completely solve the problem but it should. We did this with Madras in the 60's.
Red pigments that are dyes are unstable. If your fabric is a french terry or cotton blend it will likely keep losing pigment in the wash.
Somethings that can help set dyes are: washing until the dye stops coming out; setting the dye with salt and or vinegar and cold water AND making sure the water runs clear and drying on a very hot temperature.
Dyes should be set in the manufacturing process, but the quality control can be iffy- especially with reds.
Yes my mother taught me about the vinegar. When I have some thing large I fill my washing machine with cold water and then add the vinegar. I have top load washer so if I leave the top up everything just sits. I would then wash as well in cold water again, watch what the water looks like, if its still red do it again. I have done this with other fabric items.
This article suggests 1 cup of vinegar or 1/2 cup of salt. There are a lot of other suggestions as well. https://speedqueen.com/smart/2017-q2/the-secrets-to-stopping-colors-from-bleeding-and-fading.aspx?utm_source=Pinterest&utm_content=The%20Secrets%20to%20Stopping%20Colors%20from%20Bleeding%20and%20Fading
You can wash it in vinegar in your washing machine or in kitchen sink-it should stop the "bleeding". It has worked for me before on dark blue & black colors. Hope this helps you.
Soaking in salt water is supposed to set the color.
Don't wash it in cold water, only very cold. The problem is that the fabric was not finished properly, the right chemicals were not used.
I made a mistake, don't wash in HOT water only cold.
"Bleeding laundry isn’t just a nuisance -- it’s also a costly mistake. There’s nothing worse than pulling your expensive white top out of the washing machine to find it dyed pink. Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to prevent your clothes from bleeding dye -- like testing your clothes before washing them and switching up your laundry habits -- so you don’t have to spend a fortune on a new wardrobe." Soak it in salt and vinegar with cold water. It will set the dye.
