Pull the weeds, prevent the weeds, or poison the weeds.

Pull out the weeds making sure you get as much of the root as possible. The wind and birds are as much to blame for the weeds so you may never be completely weed-free.

Prevent weeds using mulch. I like to put down newspapers and then put my mulch over that. The newspapers are really good at blocking the seeds, will decompose in weeks and is held down by the mulch.

Poison the weeds with Roundup or other weed killer. These are designed to kill to the root so it might not happen immediately, but it does happen. I use a sprayer for large areas of weeds and I paint the leaves with the weed killer in those areas where I don't want to kill the plant I'm trying to cultivate.

NO to RoundUp! PLEASE, never use RoundUp! Use "smothering" (multiple layers of newspaper, old carpet or even dark plastic bags) and boiling water (let the soil cool and then immediately pull the weeds).
