put a cup of water in them and micro for 15 seconds. if the water has warmed but not the bowl you should be good to go. 8^)
Can you post a photo, I have a lot of European cook and bakeware, (among other things), I might be able to tell. Both my parents were born in Austria and one of my grandmothers lived there her entire life, she sent us stuff from all over Europe.
Why risk it? Use them for cold food.
I don't think 'beautiful' and radiation and hot steamy water go together at all.... much like crystal stemware....no microwave and no dishwasher....
I agree w/ John, don’t chance it. I use them as a display or serving dish. I have many bowls, plates & platters circa 1940 from Germany. I use them during the holidays as decoration & serving pieces.
If they have any metallic trim or decoration on them, they will spark in the microwave.
If you have your microwave owner's manual, they probably have a page on how to test whether containers are microwave safe. But if they are really beautiful, as Big lulu said, why risk it?
