You could get narrow shelving and put one behind the couch, on the bedroom wall, in the hall, etc. Narrow ones do not take much space (8 to 9 inches) and they are wide enough for books. Go from floor to ceiling with them.

DO you have a corner or open flooring - stack them various ways. I found a 'hutch' top at IKEA - and I managed to get 40 books stacked various ways - even with the open shelved bottoms.......The spines of the books are displayed uniquely.

There used to be a 'folding' one from stapes or Office MAx - around 40 - the hutch top was around $20. AS is section......

we have a small house...so I have found ways to utilize space fairly well. One such way was to install a shelf one foot down from the ceiling all the around a room. I have done this in three rooms. You can choose the wide if the shelf, but make sure you use adequate hangers. I have arranged books, vases, collector plates etc. kn my guest room, i have displayed my kid'ssmall sruffed animals, favorite books and other small toys from their childhood. it looks great!

If you don't need to get to them often consider shelves above the doors. The door frame will help support the weight of the books and you can add 2 shelf brackets to each end.

If you just want to keep them, not see them, consider under the bed storage. Also consider other rooms, such as on top of kitchen cabinets, on top of a bathroom shelf (if not valuable books).
