Use Dawn dishwashing liquid and warm-hot water. If that doesn't break up the grease, then use TSP. Use hot water, wear gloves and, while you may have to scrub a bit, it should clean up with this.
Start with Lestoil, follow the directions on the bottle. Dry completely, and finish the wall with furniture polish. Spray on the rag, don't spray over the stove. This will give the back splash a thin coating, that no one will see. The next time you clean it, the grease hasn't penetrated to the wall because of the furniture polish, and should be easy to clean. Repeat with polish again.
Dawn dish soap.
