Can you use chalk paint directly on a formica table? Thanks

    Many chalk paint people have said yes to that, but I would not.

    Clean your formica well with TSP,

    wipe down with white rubbing alcohol.

    Sand in the direction the grain would be (this would be best done with an electric sander).

    Wipe down again with alcohol.

    Buy XIM primer from Home depot. Paint on. Let dry.

    Hand sand lightly to get the nubs smooth.

    Then paint one coat a day of your paint.

    *I don't like the finish of chalk paint for a counter if is used in a kitchen. If it is just a display counter, then it will be fine. However, chalk paint is porous and not food safe. I can recommend a paint if you are interested.
