Hi Ellen. You can use old pallet wood. You can stain it and cut the boards down to different sized to make a stagger look.
wallpaper that looks like tin ceiling. and hang.....get out your little pant bottles of silver or copper and paint when dry streak on brown shoe polish ( wipe lightly) to give it the rust look (cheaper then buying the tin squares)
We wanted to put up an easy backsplash and found light weight metallic ones at Lowe's that come in sheets. It came with instructions, was easy, quick and inexpensive. They come in brass look, nickel, or copper. We were well pleased. It did not look cheap or inappropriate at all. There were "tiles" shapes stamped into the sheets to give them 3 D look. Other home improvement stores probably have them too.
Tin tiles, scrubbable washable and paintable patterned wallpaper, copper and so on. What look catches your eye might direct us to help here.
