Wow! That' horrible! I had the same thing happen with an expensive shower curtain- I just used fabric repair glue to fix it, but not sure that's an option for you. Unless, you want to camouflage the repair with some fabric paint and rubber stamps or stencils, or with ribbons or cloth patches to match your decor. I know that you bought them at the price you paid because they were the look you were after, but... Who knows what can happen when the muse kicks in? Good luck!
hopefully you still have the packaging and the receipt. Contact the seller - take PHOTOS ---
You can put right sides together and stitch them. Then, if you want, you can iron them so that those seams are inside a fold, making them appear pleated, depending upon how many slits there are and how evenly they are placed. If they are shirr-on curtains, the seams will probably disappear into the natural folds of the curtains. Good luck!
If they were like this when you took them out of the packaging, I would return them.
It's never too late to return them if the company is a reputable business.
Use fusible webbing.
I would contact the company. If that fails try a fabric glue or one of the many fray check adhesives that are permanent and should confine the split.
Definitely do not attempt to repair/fix these...return them to your place of purchase, I hope it is local to you, and get another set and check them out before you take them home so you will not be surprised again when the package is open..
I would return them. If you try to sew them, you'll see a seam.
Liquid stitch.
