How do I clean the bottom of my iron?
It has hard brown burn gook in it.
Repeat until it all comes off. Iron and rub over the bad spots a bar of soap. Iron it off on an old bit of cloth. Or Use Cream Kitchen Cleaner on cold iron.

DIY Iron Cleaner- Clean Your Burnt Iron
Although you can buy a steam iron bottom cleaner for a ridiculous price-I've used a white toothpaste and a scotchbrite scrubber sucessfully.....cooktop cleaner could work nicely too since its made to remove burnt debris.
Iron over waxed paper several times and then iron a cloth, until it all comes off.
It depends on the bottom of your iron... Is it Teflon, medal or the new non stick type
Teflon you can use a Dobie scrubber make sure you get the iron hot then unplug and with Dawn soap start scrubbing..if metal get some steel wool and start scrubbing with Dawn. Lastly get iron hot turn off get a nylon scrubber and maybe a plastic putty knife and start cleaning. Good luck
I've used steel wool to clean mine in past, and then run hot iron over a piece of waxed paper.
Table Salt, newspaper and a hot iron...Sprinkle salt on the paper...No steam setting but just get it HOT. Salt will pick up all of the residue on your iron.
I used the instructions in the link, the baking soda /water paste worked great! https://www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/cleaning/laundry/clean-iron
