Goo Gone will take the sticky residue off.
Smear some peanut butter on it. It won't hurt the wood. If you're going to stain after use a little diluted vinegar to help with the oil
googone should work
How about using a solvent such as lacquer thinner, no residue or Goop label remover. A heat gun and scraper might work as well, yet you will have to use a solvent to prep the surface so the wood accepts the stain.
Hello! I just removed sticky residue from some new glassware I purchased. At first I tried Scrubbing it off with the rough side of a sponge after soaking the glasses in soapy water. No luck! Then I tried something I read about. I put a couple of drops of Dawn dish detergent directly on the affected area and then a couple of drops of white vinegar. I let that soak for just a few seconds and then rubbed the area with my finger and the sticky stuff immediately came off!
a product called googone. You can get it at Walmart or meijer or just about any store.
Try a little bit of regular fingernail polish remover on a tiny corner of the sticky spot. I think this will remove the glue without leaving a spot of any kind like Goo Gone
Like Too Gone dwould.
Mineral spirits will do it.
Goof Off or Goo Gone -- Sold at Home Depot.
A little oil rubbed into the sticky area, .apply baking soda or cleanser, work it in and should scrub right off. Elmer's Glue makes a "sticky" remover that is excellent on residue and glue. It's with the glue in the craft section.
Try nail polish remover
Hi Bren, WD-40 or Surgical Spirit will remove the sticky glue residue. I’ve also heard great things about Goo Gone

I am an artist and I accidentally found the BEST way to remove labels and their sticky residue. Use 'Bug and Tar' (by Turtle Wax). This stuff works. Period.
Spray or dab the milky liquid on the label or residue. Let sit about 15 minutes and remove label with a damp Terry cloth dishcloth. One caveat, Bug and Tar loses its punch after a few minutes. I have had no luck re-using it on another project.
One time I accidently dropped an entire gallon of Polyurethane on my paper bag floor. In a panic I began scooping it up with my hands. OMG, what a mess. After I got it off the floor my hands and fingers were stuck together. I tried everything, nail polish remover, paint thinner, soap, bar keepers scrub, you name it I tried it. I googled (with my sticky fingers) how to remove polyurethanes and the answer was simple. OLIVE OIL. Not Vegetable oil for some reason, but Olive Oil putting it on like hand cream, came off in a jiff.
