Use cheerful kitchen curtains, place mats, and rugs. If you can, use throw rugs, for this too will help, and throw pillows for a couch, or chair. On the chair, use hand towels, as a chair arm rest, also, use a towel as a cover to the area, where the head rest is. These colorful areas, will add lots of color, and you can always change the colors, by having diff. towels, or curtains, as well. Best wishes, J. Tell us later, of your outcome, ok? Have a great day!!
You can add colorful pictures to your walls. You can get large pieces from Home Depot, Lowes, etc. at a reasonable price. Use Command Hooks for hanging them.
Large colorful art works.... even if you create them your self.... Pinterest can give you some ideas for that (like melted crayons that drip down the canvas) There are some really nice fabrics (regular and upholstery) that could be mounted on a frame like canvas. Some 1x2 wood made into a frame (Pinterest can show you how) and art canvas stapled over it will get you started
Matching or contrasting artwork can help you color your world... go for it.
When we lived in apartments, we put up that cheap peelable border to add some color plus colorful curtains, furniture and pillows! I didn't like all white so I did ever I could!
Art! Framed posters, prints, paintings, colorful fabric, hanging quilt or kimono, mirrors, wall clock, floating shelves with colorful and interesting items, really so many ways to add color and interest!
Have you thought about hanging fabric? Sheets would be great. Just use a staple gun
Judy is spot on. If you can't accentuate the walls, make your home comfy with accents from the furnishings you have. Here is a link that might give you some ideas. You will see some of the photos are colored walls but you gotta just think about the rest.

Yes, and if you prefer one color, then maybe in 4 months, you can change colors, and accent the area in a diff color. I would keep on using cheerful colors, and not dark ones, for the dark colors, like royal blue, or black, will cause depression. I am trying to help you with a high lite of colors, for a happy atmosphere in your apt. Best wishes, J. PS.. eventually, you may have a real variety of colors, and then you can harmonize the colors as you choose. Best wishes, and enjoy this adventure!!! J.
Use cloth. See YouTube for attaching to walls. Lots of work, but worth it. And so easy to change.
You can use liquid starch as an adhesive . Cover areas with cloth that has been soaked in the starch. Use a paint roller to smooth out the cloth. The cloth will stay put until you pull it off. The starch is able to be wiped off with water.
