buy small glass globe, floral picks, small square styrofoam block and it will look very pretty on any table. you can even add a candle in the center for a more formal centerpiece. the really nice thing about these centerpieces is that you can buy most of the supplies at the dollar tree.

A clear glass bowl or vase (mix or match) and fill it with ornaments in one, two or mixed colors (Walmart, Target, Dollar stores... have lots of choices for inexpensive ornaments right now).... and Pinterest.com will have ideas for you too
Wrap small boxes in pretty Xmas paper & ribbons. Arrange them randomly in the center of a table. Put pinecones around them and a few ornaments & artificial pine greens. You could also add a set of tiny battery operated lights. Have fun and enjoy!
I like to cut pine branches and lay two on the table with ends out (cut ends in center or overlapped), then add assorted Christmas balls and candy canes to cover the cut ends. If it is for dinner, I place citrus fruits (oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, even grapefruits and nuts) on the pine boughs - some whole, some cut in half so the smell is wonderful! You could also add cinnamon sticks and wrapped candies. Battery operated candles can also be added. (We would often make bets on who would be the first to grab a piece of fruit and eat it!)
The simplest is to put a wreath on the table and put a candle in the middle.
