What the Best way to fix/touch up scratches on hardwood floors?

I have some scratches in the otherwise beautiful hardwood floor in my livingroom. One of these is quite deep and long (my husband tried to help the furniture deliverers move the sofa!). The area is about 12 inches by 2 inches and is a bit off to the side. I really don't want to have to redo the whole floor right now. Any floor experts out there who can give me advice? The wider white area in the photois just sun reflection.

When I moved into a house with a badly damaged hardwood floor, I had no extra $$ to spend. So I "painted" my floor with olive oil (yes, with a paint brush) and let it sit for over 24 hours. Then I went back and buffed with a clean, soft rag. I have used this same technique to fix scratches in my wood furniture as well. It may or may not work for you. But less expensive and certainly less intrusive for the remainder of the floor.

Crayons. Find one that matches your floor color. Rub into scratch..polish with soft cloth.

Be sure to add felt footpads to all your furniture pieces.

We acutually had furniture movers under the sofa legs that were removed in the process of readying for the new furniture delivery. My husband was a bit overeager!

Go to Home Depot or Lowe's. Probably Walmart has the same product. We used Rejuvenate which is Wood Furniture & Floor Repair Markers. Touted as making scratches disappear. It comes in 6 colors all together which are maple, oak, cherry, walnut, mahogany and espresso. I note the scratch is on all different colors of wood so these range from dark to light. After using the appropriate marker color simply remove the excess pigment with a cloth. This should solve your problem from what I see in the photo. Also, there are furniture pads we purchased which fit on square on round legs of furniture and are great for sliding furniture back and forth without leaving any scratches. These can be purchased at the above stores or perhaps a furniture store. I really like your floor color.

I had heard of those markers but hadn't located any to date. Thank you for the compliment on my floors. They are Bellawood Golden Teak which I got from Lumber Liquidators.

The wood is compressed so adding a bit of moisture if they are not too deep helps. A damp rag on the area For a while. If that doesn't work there are great tips here.

For deep scratches use Minwax Blend Fil Pencils and for surface scratches use Minwax Stain Markers. Come in all stain colors. No prepping, sanding needed.

They have markers out there especially for this now that cover excellantly you can get them at canadian tire or usually any lumber or hardware store. Better than putting in a new floor.

Walnuts. Rub them into the scratch and the oil will darken the wood. Also Old English dark polish works well.

My friend had the same problem. I put some tea bags in a small amount of hot water left them to stew for awhile then just picked them up and dabbed all over the scratch. Just keep doing it till its the colour you want. Leave it to dry and just get a candle and rub in to the scratch. Use a luke warm iron hovering over scratch so it melts in. Keep doing till it's level. Hope that helps literally costs zilch. ....

Go to your local Walmart and purchase shoe polish close to your floor colour. Use the one in the tin, not the liquid. Rub it in with a soft cloth, let to dry then buff up with the soft cloth

Try a felt tip pen (Sharpie) for scratches or for deeper try a crayon - in the right colour.
