Brr! Drafty windows- how to cut the draft?
I have 3 sets of windows configured like this...very drafty, How to you winterize them? There is nothing in the corner to stick tape to. Thank you
Hi Mary, it depends on how wide the gap is but they make spray foam in a can that will fill large gaps. For narrower gaps (say around those windows) you can buy cualk in just about any color. Hope that helps!
Most caulk may have temperature limitations for it to cure. Make sure you are within what the package calls for. You can have him replace the weather stripping he took off with new. You may be able to find some kind of weather stripping to put around the windows at a home improvement store.
home store weather stripping and take foto and bring to show them
the over head door or the entry door? I just put a new sweep on the bottom of the bay door on the garage. The rope caulk I use says not to apply if the temp is below 60 degree f. The smaller side door got caulked inside surface and the garage surface
caulk arround the intire window frames...not just on top. figure if my finger nail can get in a space between the 2 surfaces it needs caulk. Check your base boards as well. The caulking will keep insects out.
Most home improvement stores have sticky weather strips that you put directly on the doors 4 edges, and clear plastic for windows to cut off drafts. One thing we do most do not is we put bubble wrap on windows we do not use like in spare bedrooms, utility room, bathrooms, and hall windows. On ones we choose we do leave a side strip or top strip of a few inches to peek out if needed. Covering all windows unused and partially the ones we use on occasion cut our heat bill way down! It is drastically lower than most neighbors with similar built homes (all very well insulated by the way). It is the bubble wrap that made the difference. I no longer feel a draft in our living room where we partially covered our windows for winter. We learned all this when we had to live in our camper 2 winters in Wyoming. Hope this helps you
