I love the hex tile and once it is installed it will look fantastic. No one but you will even notice the grout line. If you think the grout line will really bug you, spring for the pencil tile, as you have to look at it every time you are in that room for years to come - you should be happy and "not settle" - that is my vote.
Beautiful tile! I wouldn't have noticed the grout line if you hadn't mentioned it. I agree though, do what aesthetically pleases you!
I agree with Naomie. It's a personal and budget choice. If installed properly the grout line should be straight and not uneven. In the photo there is no grout line so it doesn't look right. A pencil tile would make it more visually appealing but could also detract from the large tile. I have installed border tile with and without pencil tile and both did look fine.
Normally the accent tile is cut (on a tile saw) to be a straight line before installing.. it is done to any shaped tile: penny tile, true octagon, lantern, oval.... any of them..... they do not come pre cut because you need to be able to fit them together for a continuous pattern
I agree, even if you put down a pencil tile, you will still have the same grout line and I think it would be more distracting than just plain grout.
