I would put up a small rod that you can slip a curtain on. I would find an insulated curtain panel that you would not mind cutting up. If you need to cover more than one side, just repeat the same on each side. Cut the panel with seam allowance all around and more on the top. Fold over the top and sew it so that you can just run the rod through it. This would also, using an insulated curtain, keep out the heat from the sun beating on it.
insert a tension rod and use a curtain
Why not simply put a reflective window film on that window, it prevents heat and UV damage, you can see out of it.... https://www.amazon.com/Window-Privacy-Non-Adhesive-Decorative-Control/dp/B075GY66SW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1513459494&sr=8-3&keywords=non+adhesive+window+reflective+film
I like the idea with a curtain rod - sounds like a tension rod would be best.
If the shelving on the bar isn’t something you mind stapling into - you could also staple the fabric - gathering it a bit as you go to make it look more like hung curtains instead of boring fabric hung straight.
You could use a spring loaded curtain rod and hang material or part of a pillow case or sheet for a curtain on it. If you wanted it to stay shut in place you could add a second rod at the bottom.
