Blend up some irish spring soap and sprinkle that around -https://www.hometalk.com/diy/grow/s-30-helpful-gardening-tips-you-ll-want-to-know-29714937?page_num=2
A fence would be more effective at keeping deer out of your garden, Mike.
Repellents need to be applied periodically and after rains. A spray of 20 percent whole eggs and 80 percent water is one of the most effective repellents. To prevent the sprayer from clogging, remove the chalaza or white membrane attached to the yolk before mixing the eggs. The egg mixture is weather resistant but must be reapplied in about 30 days.
to keep deer out your fence needs to be verry tall. i've used 5 ft tall fencing and used it as a plant cage. my hands can get threw the mesh, my uncle clipped the fencing to fit his larger hands.
We put metal stakes around the garden, wrapped the tops of them with old socks, pour old cologne on the socks periodically. We buy the old cologne at yard sales. Weāve had a garden for the last 3 years and no deer in it. And we do have deer around. I have to say it doesnāt deter the squirrels. Lol
Hang bars of Irish Spring soap in nylon netting every few feet. The stuff smells terrible and it will keep deer away! There are deer repellent bags you can buy at gardening stores or on the internet that do the same thing.
Also Bayer's (just like the aspirin) Systemic Rose Food (it is in a blue plastic bottle) will keep deer away! Again, it smells awful. You have to make sure that the granules are always showing on the ground around the plants. If they are gone the smell is gone and the deer will be back!
Use a vegetable peeler on the bar of Irish Spring soap and scatter shavings around plants and bushes. There's a product called Bobbex that works really well if you have something you want to protect though!
I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating - works on rabbits too!
