Yes, this can be done, with standard home wiring knowledge and providing there is enough wire to stretch the thermostat control box this far
-turn off the power breaker to the thermostat
-take off the cover and gently pull out the wiring out of the hole in the wall
-if there is enough wire (shine a flashlight inside the hole to see if you can tell from what direction the wiring is coming from- maybe it is wound around a 2x4 etc.)
-if there is enough wire, then make a small hole in the new location on the wall where you want your controller
-"fish" the wire up to the new hole using a long object, such a bamboo skewer with the end of the wire taped
-small fingers, two pairs of hands, long needle-nose pliers, and wearing a head light facilitate doing this.
-reattach the controller box as necessary
This method can also be used to relocate a thermostat controller from one side of the wall to the next.
