Have a 13"x13"x1"thick clay piece of art. How do I hang out on a wall.

They make adhesive plate hangers that can hold about 5 pounds. I'm not sure if they make bigger ones that hold more weight, but that might be a start. Here's a link:

Build yourself an "L" shaped shelf that it could sit on. Put a small edge on it to keep it on the shelf. You could then securely mount the shelf on the wall and put your art piece on it. If you are worried about it staying up, perhaps some clear fishing line may be put across it and secured to a small screw or nail put in the wood behind it. You can stain or paint the shelf the same color as the wall or another color that would accentuate the clay art piece. Hope this helps. Have a great Holiday Season!

Joking aside, have you looked in a China Shop? They have hangers for ornamental dishes. That should hold the weight.

Hubby built some shelves like Nancy mentioned. They are a "L" shape so there is a lip on the front to keep whatever you put on there from sliding and falling onto the floor. Works great for displaying pictures in frames too since you can move the stuff on the shelves around whenever you want.

I would call a ceramic studio or art teacher and ask for their advice. Once it is broken, it's broken.

That's a great idea. I read something many years ago about hanging even larger pieces than mine; I'm just not sure what they recommended. I believe it was mounting it by gluing to a solid piece of wood and then hanging the wood piece on the wall. I don't know it plate holders would be able top hold the weight and thickness of it.

I'm going to look into building that L shaped shelf; of I put a deep enough groove in it that is wide enough for the piece to sit in. Then if I use some museum putty to double secure it I think that would keep it safe.
