Dave - you can paint the metal trim to update the look of your home. Go to the paint store and ask about the best paint for exterior metal - most likely it will be oil-based.
Are these windows doing the job of being energy efficient? I replaced mine with newer vinyl double pained ones.
Would add shutters that match upstairs windows. Fresh coat of paint too!!
Downstairs Shutters could be White to balance better with white Boarding. or All shutters Stronger Turquoise or Olive Green then Door could be Burnt Orange. to blend with Brick. Bright Yellow Orange Green in Wall Baskets. Metal Frames White.
The grids make the windows look amazing. I would paint the metal frame work a color that will stand out on both the white wall and the bricks as well. Maybe the same color as the door. Just saying... you can barely see that there are shutters on the brick because of the color.
I agree with everyone that a new shutter color would help. I would also look into painting the 2nd story a color that would blend better with your brick. Right now it just sticks out. There are products that you can even use to paint aluminum siding. Good luck!
