Build shelves around the unit (making sure you have enough clearance for heat) to make the stove look like a built-in. You can put a t.v. on the top shelf and make it look like an entertainment center.
I think it's a pretty area. Maybe decorate some of the tiles like you said. Others will come along with different ideas. You will find one you like!

If you are going to paint it, I would use high heat stove paint, but wait till you can leave the doors open cause that high heat paint stinks terribly.
