Replanting aloe, cactus and ivy. What type of soil do I need?
I live in Indiana and want to grow an aloe Vera plant. Any tips?
I know I'll have to pot it, but I was wondering if anyone has any more aloe vera care tips!
just put it in either water or dirt, it is one of the most forgiving plants ever. If put in water, when it grows roots, put in dirt (just regular, ordinary dirt).
Hi Geri, You can put that right into dirt. It looks like a big "leaf" so it should go into a medium-size pot. Place it in a sunny window. It should grow just fine and will help any scrapes and burns you happen to get.

Aloe is super hardy. Just plant in well draining soil, water every couple days for a week or two, then pretty much leave them alone.
Don't get impatient. The roots will have to grow before the plant can grow. The roots are short and hairlike. When the plant really catches on, smaller aloe vera shoots will sprout. Eventually it will outgrow your pot, but I suggest taking sprouts and starting new pots rather then constantly getting bigger and bigger pots. But if you go for larger pots, eventually your one little stem-like leaf can grow into a five-foot tall and wide bush. Give leaves away generously. ☺️

I've have been growing these plants for over 20 yrs great house plants and yes you can regrow them if it's a small one stay with a pot the size of the plant but this plant is part of the cactus family your soil has to a form is sand in it so you can buy cactus soil anywhere give it light watering sit it in a area that the sun comes in and warm spot and don't water it until the soil feels dry

Thanks Allison. I do have a pot of aloe vera and was curious if it’s possible from a big leaf. I guess I’ll experiment it in the kitchen.
