For years I have tried to grow blueberries and failed.

I have had 2 bushes like advised, nurtured the ground as instructed and even planted in 2 different places at different times. One bush was stsrting to blossom when I bought it and produced about a half cup that year but nothing afterward. The 2 bushes were specifically for growing in my area but they acted like they were stunted and never really grew much at all. They finally died. Any tips on how to grow blueberries in S.E. Idaho?

FIRST of all, it is too early in the yr to plant these. Secondly, I would do a test on the soil, to be sure your soil is NOT missing a needy chemistry to make good soil. These two factors will make all the diff as your growing problem. J.
Either your soil isn't good for them, water too alkaline, or they aren't in enough sun, also need cross pollination.

Sounds like they may have been root bound.
Put pine straw around them
I think they require Acidic Soil. If that is the case the you must keep the acidity up otherwise they will fail. Use Amiracide or something similar..!
(1) make sure you've got berry plants hardy to your area (2) make sure you have acid soil (3) make sure they have enough -- but not too much -- sun (blueberries are understory plants, in many cases) (4) make sure they have enough water (5) eventually you will need to learn to prune them properly and IMNSHO this is more of an art than a science
qhwn you planted your blueberries, did you dig a large hole around 3 feet around or a 3 foot wide trench works well too if your adding several plants! I may go over kill? But I dig a good 3 feet deep too since my ground is clay I want to give my plants plenty of drainage as much as possible too! I get garden soil 4 to 1 that comes with all the goodies in the soil to help garden plants grow and fill in around my blueberruse with this soil. I also put bark nuggets around my blueberry plants to help stop weeds from growing. Plus the bark nuggets help insulate the plants in cold weather and also retain moisture for the plants in hot weather too! I have 8 different species of blueberry plants that I’ve been growing about 5 years now and they have doubled in size and I get tons of berries every year! Bigger my plants the more berries I get! This may help to get your blueberry growing and producing better?
Where are you located? I am in S.E. Idaho so i usually mulch my trees and bushes each winter.
