white vinegar
Wash them in a vinegar/warm water solution.
Or swish a tablespoon of cheap vodka in the jar, dump out and let air dry.
bleach
Fill them with spent coffee grounds, close the lid and leave for a few days (maybe just one day). The smell will be gone!
baking soda is used to counteract a vinegar odor. If it truly was a container of pickles, it has already had vinegar in it.
I do pickling every summer. I simply run the jars through the dishwasher and use the heated drying cycle too.
I rinse the jars, then soak them in sudsy bleach water. ☺️
