I agree with Russ. Looked into the metal and the total job was 3x the price. There is also a product that looks like a tile roof called Onduline and you may think that the appearance is worth a little extra.
You should get estimates from three roofing contractors and ask what are your alternatives. You may find one that likes doing metal and has experience which tends to increase their efficiency. The difference in price may not be that much. Keep your options open. There is nothing to decide until you have a quote in-hand.
If I were you I would use metal. You won't have to replace a shingle & it will help keep out noise. We have a white metal roof, you don't hear rain on it & it will outlive us, maintenance free! Hope this helps
