We need an attic fan cover that doesn't leak air - hot or cold.
Our louvered cover opens when the fan is on and closes when the fan is off, but it leaks air. Hot in summer and cold in winter. Any suggestions on something we can ... See more

Yes, it does pull out hot air out of the attic. Worth it, yes. But make sure you know how to install or get a pro to do it right.
I have them and in my opinion they work wonders AND save your roof too. My house is small so I only have two. Installed them back in 2005 when I replaced the roof. Saves on a/c costs (which can run high where I live, 100°+ for months on end, was 80° yesterday), and would highly recommend them. Mine are set to automatically turn on when the attic gets to be 90°. I also had an interior switch installed in case I want to turn off for any reason. I do not recall that they were expensive, but that was 13 years ago.
I have home is 34 yr old home but don't know when it was installed looks old,but it works great. I wish it had been installed so to automatically work but if I have to change it I will have that installed as well. I love it and it's great because even if I just want to freshen the home as long as the downstairs windows are open a bit I just go pull the cord and 15 minutes later home is fresh and cool. If you can afford it and need it installed that way go for it,if you have one like mine, as long as it's in working order I wouldn't spend the money ,but I also have a ton of other ptojects that are more important and erjent at this time.
I have lived in FL and currently live in VA. We had a home repair business for 15 years. One of our larger jobs was to install those fans for everyone in the community. DO IT! All 154 customers reported lower electric bills because of reduced AC use. We also received alot of comments saying that they could actually go into the attic for a period of time in the summer. It typically gets hot enough to destroy some Cristmas decorations. We got an email thanking us for her decorations surviving the summer. Check into the solar powered fans. They work just as well as hard-wired. We also used to recommend adjusting the temp and humidity controls to reduce the run time a bit, but that's a personal choice.
By "the community", I mean one of the garden house communities in our area.
I agree! BIG PLUS! BIG BENEFITS! Have mine set at 90 degrees (standard). Goes on when temp goes above 90 and shuts down below 90. Make sure you have some regular vents to create air flow.

Answer is YES,,,both for summer and winters up north...winter keeps attic cold with proper insulation...saves money in the long run...cheaper alternative with no electric used are (ridge vents, etc.. , any ventilation that is properly engineered for building and attic size)
