As you can see one end is split the end. I need to know what products to buy.
You need to put a firm backing, such as plywood behind the wicker.
Wrap the headboard in batting, cover with your fabric and hammer the
nails into the plywood.
Place a Board on the back as well as the front.......
Hi Kym,
As has been said, you'll need some kind of backer board to secure the nails. I've also seen it done with just some strips of wood place along the back. That might help to keep it lighter, but you'd have to be sure they're measured exactly for your use. You might also think about using a decorative button then sewing it through the fabric, padding and into the wicker with heavy duty thread or fishing line. Wishing you the best.
If you plan on use the head board as a back support for reading... nails might pull out over time.... metal buttons (with a shank) might be a better option.
use at least 1/4 inch plywood on the back of the headboard... and drill holes where you want the buttons placed... use a tufting needle (really long) and heavy cord or string... get some large flat buttons... knot the string with a long (6 in) tail.. go thru the flat button, thru the hole in the headboard, thru the shank of the metal button and back thru the headboard and flat button...pull the front button tight and tie cord in a knot... then use a drop of fabric glue to secure the knot and staple the tail to the plywood... repeat for all the front buttons to be placed.
By the time you do all of the recommendations, which are correct, you might as well sell the wicker headboard and start from scratch with plywood. Just saying...
If you don't want to add plywood (or other backing), use nice buttons but when thread goes through the wicker, loop around a washer or add a button to the back as well to keep thread from damaging the wicker.
