I have a collection now of maybe ten long trees (trunks? they range from abt 4 ft to 10 ft long, and of various diameters, all under a ft wide), maybe ten pallets, at least a dozen 2x4's, and then various other wood cuts or scraps. I will only be able to use what I have on hand, but am hoping to create spaces for my four kiddos to breathe and feel safe as we start over. The home is quite small and I'm enjoying getting creative with space, but seem to be stuck when approaching a few things I need to actually 'build in.' The living room is long and from my perspective has opportunity to build in a desk in the one corner, which I think may need to include (up to) a windowseat on each side, shelves above and/or around, and some sort of filing area.. perhaps under one of the seats..? I consider my style to be 'rustic elegance,' but especially have for years brought pieces of the outdoors in.. and so would love to incorporate that look, whether with the long logs, or other.
Which brings me to the other 'main attraction.' I also need to use this collection of wood to build in a bunk bed for two of my boys (will also need to for my daughter and I, but we are fine to snuggle for now!). The room is pretty tiny, and so I think I might do best by building in the bunks, perpendicular to each other to create sort of their 'own areas (this will 'house' a 13yo and a 5yo.. both loving buddies and extremely active and so I only see their room as their crash pad, BUT I would like to make it as 'cool' and boundary defining as possible.. Ie enclosed.. their lil safe space. I have a few random dressers (donations from women's shelter), and am more than willing to tear them apart and use as building material as well. I am pretty certain it would be best to include drawers, etc. with the bunk set, and lastly, if at all possible I'd love to slip in a trundle bed for either their other brother, or more likely for sleepovers. I see this basically as the room itself being entirely the bunk system.. all encompassing, and as I mentioned, their own lil enclosures.
SO. lol. I show the kiddos how to fix things around the house, and I have a decent understanding of residential construction. Basically now though, I'm looking at these spaces and have no idea how to begin. Honestly, is there an app or something that I could input the dimensions of the space I'm working with, possibly the materials I have, and a brief on what I'm hoping to create? This is where I am completely stuck.
I hope I'm articulating this accurately. I mean I can take graph paper and measure and draw out my areas, but then what? I don't know which board would go where & how (I shouldn't have any issues with cutting them, I set up a table and have a few saw-type tools)!
I apologize for the long post, and thank you for getting to here. If I went back and tried to shorten , Miss Perfectionist would pop out, and then I'd NEVER get this out.. and it's already been waaaaay too long!
Thank you SO MUCH in advance for ANY direction you could point me in!

Thank you! I like how they look like floating.. AND the storage in the steps is great!

If the room isn't long enough to build them side by side you could make them in an L shape. You wouldn't have to build a trundle under for guests just a mattress on the floor that could be slid under the bottom bunk when not in use.

You know, you're right.. and boy's especially aren't particular, I need to remember that.. I'm the one with the perfectionist issues.. that get me stuck! I think the L shape IS what I meant that I would like for them.. to make them feel more.. Oh how-do-you-say, separate..?

Ok.. so you kinda brought a few tears to my eyes.. thanks Nadine for taking the extra time to help. I have literally been on pinterest for half of my breathing and awake time the last many months.. and most everything just seems to link to pictures.. or 'you can do it, too's!' lol. Not tangible help like this. I'm starting to find this site here to be more helpful than anything.. and has actual real people, like you.. =)

Back to the L shape.. would you call the second one in this link.. the lumberjack set, L shape? Definitely something more like that is what I'm hoping for.. and worst case I could always throw some linens around to give 'em an enclosure feel..

    Seriously, Nadine. Thank you.

Drop Cloths work great for sturdy, washable, fabric pieces -- you can do all sorts of things with them - tie dye, leave 'natural', stretch/lay out really flat and paint (with fabric paint) designs on them ...
