Hi Quietstormblows,
I've personally never heard of a French door coming in plastic, but my thought would be to look in thrift stores or at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. You might be able to find one you could fix up for your own use. Here is Habitat for Humanity's web site. Look under "Shop" for their ReStores. https://www.habitat.org/ Wishing you the best.
Why plastic? is it a safety concern? I would worry that it would scratch over time and cleaning and look foggy.
You can get plexiglass cut for about anything these days. I would go to a glass cutting service and ask if they do plexiglass also, take the measurements with you. They might do it and might even have service to install it for you !!
Not a recommended practice, plexiglass if you live in a cold climate is not warm enough for one,It will never hold up ,it will scratch over time, and cloud up as well.
Even plexiglass can break unless you buy the stuff thats unbreakable, I did this on my office door after breaking the glass. It was more expensive, got it at Tap Plastics. You could also order the door with tempered glass thats like auto glass, breaks into tiny granules that is safer. Again more expensive. You might try to see if you could have a soft closure hinge put on there to prevent slamming..... yes they do make them for doors..... https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=soft+close+hinge+for+glass+door&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Door slamming is unacceptable under any circumstances. Sorry, I do not intend to be mean or judgmental. I would invest in soft close hinges for all exterior doors to discourage this behavior. Unless your glass / plexiglass shop can provide something completely secure, I would even consider changing the door.
Check to see if your door has safety glass in it before doing anything. As far as plexiglass - you would not be happy with it as it scratches easily when washed. Tiny little scratches that eventually make it look cloudy. If you really want to do this, you can remove the door, remove the molding around the glass then install a sheet of plexiglass gotten on-line or at a big box store. Replace the molding, then the door into the doorframe.
If you live with a door slammer, maybe glass breaking would be the wake up call needed to stop this behavior.
Hello, you could see about getting plexiglass in place of the glass panes, or better yet, they make a safety film for glass that makes it tougher to break, this would protect your glass from the slammer LOL! Check it out here
