If this is sterling - don't mess with it. Otherwise use it for chip and dip - just add a glass bowel in the center, with a paper doily underneath. If inexpensive silver plate or stainless steel - You can set plants in pretty pots. Set a cloth doily on it, and a tea pot, with a few tea cups. ON a dresser to sit things on. In a bathroom to put supplies on it. If the finish is warn off and not just tarnished - you can spray paint it.
