Hello! This idea is recently very popular, inexpensive and has had good results. Click on the link below to check it out. It is Hometalk‘s paper-bag flooring. Good Luck!

Do you know what material is under your carpet yet? There could be just underlayement under your carpet and will need another flooring! If someone put carpet over a existing floor like hardwood or a vinyl floor. Then we’ll have to see what you have then to give any real advice that might help you?

If there is hardwood or vinyl just get a piece of rug remnant cut to fit the size you want and get it bound. Get it big enough to place under sofa, and chair. Or an area rug.

I painted the subfloor in a bedroom after ripping up the old carpet. Clean well and use a paint intended for floors.

Agree with the above posters— paint is on inexpensive way to refurbish. Proper prep is important for any paint job.

Try the vinyl peel and stick tiles that can be cut with heavy scissors and are a cinch to install.

not sure what budget your trying to stick to or how big your room is? Other then a large rug everything else is going to get spendy I’m afraid. You could lay a full sheet of vinyl if the room not too large you may find a reminate piece somewhere chea? Be honest I’m not a fan of sticky tile. Had too many problems with them staying stuck to the floor in the past. Unless I used flooring mastic glue to glue them down myself. If it’s a smooth tile and all are stuck down well, you can glue a full sheet of vinyl over the top of your tile that would look a lot nicer! Other remove the tile and prep the floor where it’s smooth to lay new vinyl.

You could save some of the prep work using laminate flooring and it’s not too badly price if you can install it yourself. If it’s a smaller square room it’s not too tough to install yourself as long as you can read a tape measure and cut your material preferably with a table saw. But you can cut it with a skill saw too if that’s all you got. There are a couple very small saws out now that also be easy to use for this job instead of using a skill saw! If you have any doorways with trim on them? You may have to remove the trim to install the flooring. There’s also a vinyl flooring that looks more like the laminate that comes like 4 ft long and maybe a foot wide or so it over laps each other with sticky glue and stay stuck together very well. It’s a floating floor just like a laminate flooring. But easier to work with. Only down side to it is your existing floor has to be perfectly smooth. Any imperfections will show right thru the new vinyl. But they make a beautiful flooring. I install a cherry flooring for a friend of mine in her manufactured home roughly 10 years ago now! I’m almost done with putting a laminate floor in my G/F manufacturered triple wide home. It’s also a cherry imitation but lighter in color then the vinyl flooring I installed for my friend. The laminate is a little harder to install then the vinyl floating floor. If I remember correctly the name of the flooring is Allure and comes in different wood grains to give a more hardwood look! If you decide to use laminate make sure you get the water proof flooring! The non waterproof flooring gets damaged too easily if any water or other liquid gets spilled and not dried up right away! Best of luck whatever you decide

We put down plywood and painted it with porch paint. Lasted for years and had a nice rustic look
