I would sand all the paint off for safety reasons..prime and paint.
I wouldn't. Too big of a chance that the baby can chew on it.
Most cribs that are older have safety issues. Are you planning on using it for a baby?
I think a water base stain would be safer than paint. As expensive as they are, see if you have a friend who could lend you a model no older than four years that needs no repairs or painting. If your crib is old and you want to keep it, make it into a daybed. Just my opinion. ☺️
