No grass survives high traffic, low sunlight area without continued and frequent care and reseeding.
Pets and people can destroy grass as can walking areas. But they can be helped to thrive by installing stepping stones for pathways and restricting pets to a defined bathroom and play area.
As for low sunlight, you have to get a grass specifically for low sunlight areas that will survive and thrive in your area.
Fescue Grasses originated in your neighboring State of KY so look into one of these! It is a hardy grass and takes a good beating!
