If you have a greenhouse that you trust, talk to them about what you are wanting to do. They should be able to advise you on what plants that would work best for your area. When we lived in Naples, we did a front garden with large bird of paradise, heather around them and shorter plants around the periphery. It turned out really beautiful, but that was probably smaller than what you did. We spoke with a local greenhouse we liked and they helped us with what would be best with what, the prep work needed for the soil, etc. Hibiscus is also a good choice, bright, colorful and very tropical.
I’m surprised at heather, Nancy, but it is a hardy plant. I certainly agree—go to a local nursery. They will know whatever tropical plants are best for that part of Florida, and what plants should be avoided. I think Cj needs at least one y’all palm tree and maybe other short ones. And a koi pond could possibly be year round. And maybe some cacti around the edges, and an open gazebo or pergola. ☺️
