A new paint job does wonders for both the home and your attitude. Make a color change. Maybe even paint the furniture or change out the fabrics, which may include seat cushions for chairs or some throw pillows for couches. This works especially well if items actually match (at least in color). Make sure you have textures to make the room more interesting. Older couches may get a lift from a colorful quilt thrown over the back. Covers can be purchased to fit almost any shape upholstered chair or couch and can make a big difference when your furniture is looking tired. Move away from dark rooms and go toward bright and cheerful. Changing the color of your picture frames and moving them around into interesting displays can help as well. If you have vertical blinds you may want to update them with new curtains or other window coverings. Paneling is old stuff, so get rid of it or paint over it. Use molding to change the look of flat-panel doors or add a "chair railing" to the walls. If you have lived with something for a very long time and maybe don't even see it anymore or it doesn't cheer you up, consider passing it along to someone else and put something fun or interesting in its place. Get rid of clutter and make sure that every special item is located in its own focal point. Let someone else take over the responsibility for being caretaker of those family pieces. Some items can be dyed instead of replaced. Give doors a face lift by replacing hardware (knobs and handles).

Sometimes it only takes small changes to give you a good feeling. As simple as a table Runner and a new center piece. A cluster of candles gives you a warm glow or some fresh flowers just makes you feel good
