I have the same problem, and I should have known better than to plant another one. I had planted one beside my front door, thinking that I could train it to arch gracefully over the door, but instead it grew up and through the shutters, onto the gutters of the two-story house! When I moved to another house, I planted one to cover a chain link fence. When I replaced the fence with a privacy fence, I transplanted the wisteria to a wooden arbor my husband had made. Needless to say, the wisteria is waay too much for the arbor. I have to keep cutting back the wisteria, so I never get flowers, which I why I planted it in the first place. I once saw a little house with its front porch covered with beautiful wisteria flowers. So lovely, but wisteria can really cause damage if not controlled.
Wisteria's should be trimmed every year as they get older. Remember that they only bloom on 2nd year wood. So if you trim back hard, they will not bloom for 2 years.
Trim back each fall. I've seen them in wooded area that are all over the trees because no one takes care of them.
