Google search "genius ways to hide outside key", that will bring some clever ideas and may inspire ideas you have and not thought about.
I seen a post here on hometalk showing steps to make 1. Id make several if I made it LOL. It showed how to make 1 using a medication bottle mounted under a stepping stone
Here are enough to give you what you need. I like the one with the medicine bottle and the rock.

it.gFor hiding, just a key, consider putting it in a medicine bottle with a rock or ornament glued to the top. This way you can find it when you need it but no one else can find it. If you want something for your garage door opener, consider a mason jar, be sure to seal your garage door opener in a ziplock bag filled with rice to absorb any moisture that might accumulate. Then glue a decorative rock, etc. to the top before burying it. Check it monthly to make sure it is okay. Good luck.
Look at installing a remote garage door opener on the outside of your home.
