Have you tried steaming them out?
Did you hang them out on a clothes line to dry? Try soaking the shorts don’t wring out hang from line. The weight of the water may help pull out creases
Try placing a dish towel on shorts and use your iron on a lower temp to iron out wrinkles.
You can wet a thick towel or washcloth with water, wring it out well and lay it over the creases. Then, iron over the wet cloth to steam the creases out. A dry cleaner told me this trick as I wanted to remove the creases from drapery fabric I had purchased was needed to remove the creased fold lines.
Cold wash, low heat dry. Then iron the shorts with a thick piece of cardboard on the inside to press in the new crease. If you want no crease, use the cardboard but don’t iron a crease, by moving the cardboard as you iron an area. ☺️
