Most likely these are tended by pros, most of the yards are huge, to go along with the huge house and professionally landscaped and cared for by the landscapers. They most likely have the black plastic down under a lot of it to be that weed free all the time. Wish I had that kind of money to get the huge beautiful house and yard and have someone take care of the yard and the house! I use Preen Weed Preventer in the spring after I remove the weeds that have already come up or traveled into the garden. It really does work for any seed born weeds, not the root born ones, like Creeping Charlie. The only way to be completely weed free is the black plastic landscaping fabric with your pea gravel, or stones, or whatever over it. Every few years you will need to move the rock and get rid of any dirt that has landed on the rocks or you will start getting weeds.
the materials are your choice..Lay out your design, level the ground, fill in with the necessary foundation to make level, line the path with professional landscape fabric and lay your choice of product
I think youre right —dreamland is a perfect term. We had a 200 foot pea gravel driveway that was a nightmare to maintain weed wise!
Very pretty to look at tho!
They make a barrier you can use so stuff doesn't grow. Can't remember what it is called but you can get it at most home improvement stores. I used it under my stone paver patio & it seems to be working
Perhaps using gardener grade caseron will work for quite some time. I had horsetail growing in an area I was going to plant. It is very difficult to get rid of. I put caseron down (purchased from a professional gardener) then put fairly thick layers of wet newspapers to thickly (about `/2 to 1/2 inches thick) down before putting bark over that. Five years later still no horsetail and few other weeds. Perhaps a wide plastic or treated wood barrier partially underground with upper portion level or slightly above level of the gravel you will be using will give you a fair number of years of weed free walkway.
If you sprinkle corn meal, it will prevent the weeds from seeding.
