You should be able to replace the leaking gasket.
Two things to consider: repairing the old one is always cheaper, but does the old toilet use more water than a newer one? If the answer is yes, in the long run replacing would be more cost effective. Good luck.
Replacing the gasket is much much much more cheaper than replacing a toilet.

I'm for replacing the gasket first for budget reasons. If that's not the problem, replacement may be required. Check out your Habitat Resale store. I purchased two new units (never been used) for $25.00 each that had been donated, use less water, work great. Best of luck.
Go to your local home improvement store and tell them the problem and they should be able to hook you up with what you need to replace the leaking gasket.
I had the same problem on my old toilet that was over 30 years old. took me awhile to figure out where the leak was. The water was leaking down the back of the toilet. I couldn't figure out where the water was going since it wasn't on the floor. Finallly I took the lid off and discovered the washers under the bolts that held the tank to the bowl was almost completely gone. I purchased two new bolts and four new washers. No more leak. Found that the water was running the under the tile and had rotted the floor all around the toilet. Had to cut a 4x4 section out and replace. Since I had to replace the floor I decided to replace the toilet. I too got a new one at Habitat for$25,00
Thanks for the video and all the help, I am going to take it apart and check to see if new gaskets will cure the leak or if not best replacement.
Thanks again for the help
