I'd like to turn this into a place to openly store my CDs.

Plate glass shelves for safety and Back the Shelf unit with (Hardboard- MDF or Plywood)
So my first question is, how are you going to hide all the wires? Second question, when you say you want to put glass shelves on the top, do you mean where the arch shape is or lower into the seating area but at the top? Why I ask is, you could put a centre speaker in the arched area and if you have a surround sound system you could put two speakers at the top on either side. In the lower area you could use strapping vertically on the wall to make a relief that you can slide wires behind like this... https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/AS_x-6h8xkL22boy-w-mOaFfJB6WeAdfE-zA9EWfhG9bZyq9Nn1of84/ with wall mount shelving like this... https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/43206477653190922/ make sure your strapping is deep enough to slide the female ends through (because they are usually smaller than the male ends of stereo wires) It would give a great masculine look to the area and make sure you do some back lighting!
Add shelves from end to end
Add shelves from end to end
I would get the absolute thickest glass I could to run that length. Even then, I wouldn't feel good about it just suspended by the ends. A center support, from the top of the unit would be ideal to add. I've seen them made with wire cable, so not to intrusive. There are 2 way connectors that can attach a narrow glass piece to the back of the shelf to keep your CDs from falling back. The player shelf is easy enough, use painted 1 x 2s, cut to the width of your glass and attach to the boxes with the pillows. Whatever thickness the glass is, the supports are dropped that amount so it's level with the ends.
