Container gardens have no weeds to speak of
Try putting down newspaper or cardboard before you put your mulch down. It last the whole season and blocks more weeds.
You might think about a thick ground cover plant too. There should be multiple choices depending on where you live and how much sun the areas get.
newspaper! Lay down newspaper in between plants and cover with mulch!
Hire some kid to weed your garden. If you can't afford to do that consider trading something for someone's help. We traded a used 10 speed bicycle to a guy to plant 3 shrubs.
Have your Someone spread a lot of small rocks and gravel all around the outside of the house for one foot out. This will help protect your foundation, keep wood that might carry termites away from the house, and aid in drainage. From one foot out, have the mulch layed double thick, with the old mulch raked into the underlying soil. Have Someone mulch twice as often, such as once each season. If you plant any annuals, consider doing so in pots and wide trays. Then you won’t have to dig up the soil twice a year, and you can still have all the flowers you can manage. Very best wishes ☺️
After raking out your garden beds in the springtime after the snow melts (if you live in snow area), sprinkle Preen in your beds before things start popping through the soil. It kills weed seeds but won't harm your plants.
Put thick layers of newspaper down and wet them good, then put your mulch over that. I've had very good luck doing this.
You can put down a sheet off plastic or newspapers under the mulch and just cut holes for wateR around the roots. The newspaper does a good job of keeping weeds down and in about five yrs turnsinto good dirt. Another option is to do the same gravel and use flower pots instead of planting.
put down landscape fabric before putting rock down, there are a lot of nice colored rocks to choose from so use your imagination when picking it
Garden Fabric, and Mulch at least a few inches to keep the light out of the soil.
Let the perennials fil in as much as possible, leaves little room for weeds.
