It sounds like the type of paint used wasn't the appropriate kind or it was painted improperly. Remove the door from the hinges, remove all hardware, strip or sand all old paint off. Wipe it down with mineral spirits or alcohol. Prime with killz. Paint thin coats with a rustoleum product for the material and color you want.
what is the door made of?What paint was used?
Strip the paint off, and buy paint sealer, then buy an outdoor paint. The best thing to do is buy a new door, they come with lifetime guarantees in many different colors.
Hi Shirley,
If this is a new door, check your warranty. If it's the original finish it may be covered. The other questions is did it come this way or did someone paint it? If someone painted then they others are right, strip it, prime and paint it. But first call the manufacturer or the place where you bought it to help you figure out the best paint for your situation. Wishing you the best.
After checking out the other ideas here, yes sanding and riming would be good. You might want to try engine block paint or bbq paint as it is made to withstand high heat. No doubt your door gets pretty hot in the direct sunlight on an afternoon.
Eliza great answer! BBQ / engine paint
Hi there, it may be better to stain your door rather than painting it. The stain pulls into the wood and recolors it from the inside.
