Soaking in oxyclean has worked for us, use bleach is a last resort.

If it's "old" then it has probably been washed and dried a time or two since it was fresh, so I would start with Peroxide (cheap at the drugstore) and soak the spot and rub it a bit. Let it stand and then rinse. If this has helped, do it again! If you can get it faded a good bit, spray with laundry spot cleaner and wash in cool water. Don't dry it until you check the spot. If it is still visible, go through these steps again. I'm assuming this is a washable piece and not on a pieck of furniture! Old blood is difficult and I wish you luck.

Thanks! I soaked the stain in vinegar for twenty minutes, rinsed, poured some hydrogen peroxide on what remained and the stain disappeared. I will print out instructions as I never remember how to get blood out. Losing some memory as I age!

Soak the stained fabric in white vinegar for about thirty minutes, then rub the stain with your fingers as you rinse it in cool water. Repeat if the stain is noticeably improved but still present. Try hydrogen peroxide. If the sheets have already been laundered and dried, if may take multiple times of doing the vinegar and/or peroxide. Hot water "sets" the stain so, dissolving some meat tenderizer in a small amount of water and scrubbing that paste into the spots may be a last resort.

Rit dye has a color remover. Follow the directions on the package. This would be for blood stains on white sheets or you will also remove the color from the sheets.
