I want to decorate my roof garden with benches and shelves, but don't want to invest in the weight.
Put down rugs or plastic runners that grip the carpet.
See if you can get carpet remnants from a flooring shop and cover it with those until you have guests - then remove.
Have you tried scotchguarding them after they are professionally cleaned? Now about putting down runners? What about a "no street shoe" rule in the house?
Use carpet runners. This will save the carpet from wear and tear.
It may sound trite but the key is to clean often. Vacuum then use a water extraction type of carpet cleaner. Bissell and Hoover both make upright cleaners that work well. I own one of each and their performance is similar. The amount of muddy water that comes from an already clean looking carpet is gratifying. Use cleaning solution sparingly. Most people overdo the amount and soapy carpeting attracts dirt and many times I use plain water.
You are probably talking about wall to wall carpet?
We have tried runners and clear plastic nubbed covers that stay in place over the carpet, both of these worked, but the basic problem still remained.
For entry ways we used a series of outdoor mats, dirt still got in. The best result we found is to keep the mats and remove shoes. The shoes also tap down the nap of the carpet.
The upright cleaners work well and restore the nap, be careful about how much soap you use, this is a case where less is more.
