Tension rod and curtians work fine at my place....
I'm not necessarily recommending IKEA, I just don't know where else these fabric panel systems are. They are not the same as the 80's plastic sliding panels but it's a similar concept. VIdga is the IKEA name. Basically it's a rod with clips holding the panels of fabric which glide is controlled by a rod. If you have some extra wall space to either side of the opening, you can get a top rod that is longer than the opening, so when you open the curtain, it stacks the panels on top of each other without taking up any of the opening space (CLEAR AS MUD???) I have an older version and I could make my own fabric panel - just use their top rod, clips, and the stabilizer piece that goes at top and bottom of each panel.
Also, for small openings, you can use a diy sliding barn door. Pocket doors are nice but require opening the wall where these other solutions are much easier.
If you rarely go through the opening, decorative folding screens are nice; however, they quickly become a pain if you have to move them often, and in my case usually end up folded up in the corner.
Look into using a "barn door" style. You can make your own door to whatever size you need.
You could put the door on the bedroom side for it to slide behind a chest or dresser. And configure a "lock" for the door once closed.
